The Port of Virginia set a new container handling record after an 11% rise in volumes in October. That was the eighth month of expansion. Export growth of 14% outstripped imports for the first time since February, repeating a pattern seen at Savannah. The growth in imports, of 8%, was led by shipments from China which jumped by 16%. There is an increasing reliance for Virginia on Chinese shipments as those from elsewhere in Asia were either unchanged (Vietnam), or dropped (Singapore).
