U.S. employment increased more than expected in April, with the number of jobs in the logistics industry rising 1.7% on a year earlier. It outpaced the overall economy for a 42nd month to hit another new high. The situation in marine- and canal-based employment worsened however. Employment dropped 2% despite a 12% uptick in U.S. port activity in March. Jobs in the airline industry expanded 2%, partly reflecting increased global airfreight traffic, but was its slowest rate of expansion since October 2014.
