The EU has yet to approve the CETA trade deal with Canada, with rejection by two Belgian regions holding up the deal. A summit of Europe’s leaders through October 21 may yet approve the deal. Yet, even if approved now it will need formal approval from 38 regional and national authorities. This is far from a given, as flagged for Germany in recent Panjiva research. Exports to Canada from the EU returned to growth in July, reducing the economic impetus for the European Union to deal.
