Employment growth in the U.S. transportation industry continued to outperform the wider economy in June with a 2.7% year over year expansion in employment. While that would suggest the industry as a whole is proving resilient to the global trade war, individual sectors may be suffering. Employment in the maritime sector, for example, fell 2.4% year over year. That was the fastest rate of decline since Aug. 2017 and came as U.S. seaborne imports likely fell 2.0% year over year in June.
