A regular rail service to and from Xiamen in China and Moscow in Russia could help boost trade between the two countries. The growth in the value of rail freight between China and Russia expanded 75% in the second quarter on a year earlier to reach $4.2 billion. That outpaced the growth in China’s total rail exports (56%) and the rate of rail imports from Russia (25%). With shipments to China dominated by lumber and oil, Russian exporters may hope the rail link will help diversify trade as well as increase it.
