The collapse of Hanjin shipping has left importers and exporters in a quandary about what to do next. Panjiva data shows the holiday shipping season for the U.S. peaks in October, accounting for around 11.5% of annual shipments. It also shows that CMA-CGM has been growing most aggressively on the South Korea-U.S. routes, and may get more involved. Airfreight out of Incheon won’t be able to provide much assistance – it has been growing and most products are unsuited. Yet, the problem shouldn’t be overstated – South Korean exports have been falling anyway.
