China Steels Itself For Yet Another Corrosive Trade Case

China 3048 Commodities 189 European Union 878 Materials - Metals/Mining 792 Metals - Steel 543 Tariffs 1866 U.S. 5399

The European Commission has followed the U.S. in deciding to investigate Chinese exports of corrosion resistant steel. This follows a complaint by the industry on October 25 and prior EC commitments to get tougher on the use of tariffs. Panjiva data shows EU imports of the products from China increased 26% in the three months to October 31. This likely represents a shift in supply by Chinese manufacturers including Hebei, Baosteel and Bohai after U.S. tariffs cut their supplies to that market by 95% last year.
