Global Trade Hits Another New High, Signs of a Slowdown Emerging

Global 1391 Trade Balance 935

Global trade volumes expanded by 4.6% on a year earlier in June, Panjiva analysis of CPB data shows, to reach another new record. The annualized growth rate of 2.9% is the highest since April 2015. A slowdown is possible – emerging Asian markets’ growth was 5.7% in June, but evidence from Thailand, India and the Philippines suggests it may slow. U.S. export growth may also be slowing, from 6.3% in June, on the evidence of port activity. Yet, business managers’ sentiment remains robustly positive, so the global trade growth run may have further to go.
