Hapag-Lloyd and CMA-CGM Delivery Surge Can’t Save Virginia From Decline

Container handling through the Port of Virginia’s terminals fell 4% on a year earlier in May, the fourth decline this year. That was mostly due to a drop in empty container handling though exports also fell by 1%. The import picture is brighter with an 8% increase beating the national average of 6% and reflecting a surge in shipments from Europe including Germany (17% higher) and Italy (29%).
