Semiconductor maker Intel has announced plans to invest $3.5 billion in expanding its operations in New Mexico to handle its Foveros 3D packaging technology. That follows an increased focus by the Biden administration on U.S. semiconductor supply chains, though Intel’s investment will do little to clear the current industry shortage of chips for a variety of sectors.
