Mexico’s international trade activity slumped 35.8% year over year in April, with imports down by 36.5% due to a COVID-19 related drop in consumer demand while non-oil exports declined by 39.4%. The automotive sector was the main drag to the latter with an 80.0% collapse due to falling sales demand and factory closures in the U.S. Exports of automotive components to the U.S. fell by 69.7% as factories in Mexico were deemed as non-essential and were closed during the month.
