The next round of NAFTA talks, due to start February 26, will carry on where the prior round left off in terms of an increasingly hawkish stance between Canada and the U.S. even as Mexico/U.S. relations improve. Canadian negotiator AD Minister Steve Verheul has criticized a lack of flexibility from the U.S. negotiators and described state procurement proposals as “the worst offer ever”. That follows comments from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau that Canada could walk away from a “bad deal”.
