New Jet More Relevant to Russia-U.S. Trade Deals Than to Boeing

Industrials - Aero/Defense 196 Russia 119 U.S. 5325

The maiden flight of UAC’s MS-21 brings a new Russian entrant to the passenger jet market that recently saw China’s C-919 make its first flight. The Russian jet is unlikely to be transformative for the fortunes of U.S. manufacturers like Boeing. Russia only accounted for 1% of U.S. aerospace exports in the 12 months to March 31 vs. China’s 12%. Yet, aerospace sales were equivalent to 23% of all U.S. exports to Russia and so may be more relevant if the two countries have discussions about trade in the future.
