Norfolk’s Broad Export Problems Not Helped by ONE Big Slowdown

Container handling through the Port of Virginia fell 1% on a year earlier in February, the second straight decline after 10 months of improvements. Exports were to blame, with a 4% drop repeating a pattern seen in seven of the last nine months and indicating a weaker regional export economy. A 4% expansion in imports lagged the country more broadly, partly reflecting the one-third share only of shipments from China and partly a 6% drop in traffic from the EU.
