Container handling through the Port of Oakland fell 2% on a year earlier in March, with both imports and exports falling. That was largely due to the lunar new year though, with imports from Taiwan being particularly weak (3% lower). That took a toll in particular on Evergreen (whose shipments for the month dropped 16%) and Hyundai Merchant Marine (down 6%). Yet, the first quarter overall was somewhat more robust with total port traffic up 5%.
