Panama Pushes Ahead as Suez Channels Trade War Pain

The number of vessels passing through the Panama Canal rose 2.1% year over year in June despite drought-related draft restrictions. That marks a turnaround from a 2.1% decline in the prior three months on average. The improvement may represent a shift in shipping away from the Suez Canal, which saw a 4.4% drop in transits due to an 8.6% slide in containerized traffic.
