The U.S. is cutting tariffs on certain grades of Japanese cold-rolled steel, a rare liberalizing move for the steel industry. Panjiva data shows Japanese exports of the products to the U.S. fell 73% as a result of the original case which included exports from China and Brazil. Yet, U.S. imports climbed 27% in October on a year earlier. This was largely the result of imports from Vietnam which accounted for 19% of volumes in the past 12 months from 1% a year earlier.
