U.S. aluminum producers including Century, Novelis and Alcoa presented their complaints about Chinese manufacturers to the ITC yesterday. Whilst not yet at the same level of conflict as the “steel war”, imports are certainly increasing. Canada accounted for 52% of U.S. imports in the past 12 months, and China just 8%. Yet, total U.S. imports of a selection of aluminum products have grown for the five months through September on a year earlier – rising 19% in August and 16% in September according to Panjiva data.
