Prime Minister Suga and President Biden have agreed the “U.S.-Japan Competitiveness and Resilience (CoRe) Partnership”. The partnership does not appear to factor in a wide-ranging trade deal, nor does it include potential U.S. membership of the CPTPP. It does, however, require the two to “cooperate on sensitive supply chains, including semiconductors.” That comes as the Biden administration is in the midst of a review of critical supply chains across four sectors due to report in early June.
