The WTO’s assessment of G20 trade shows a slowing in new measures both restricting and facilitating trade. Yet, it looks like 2016 could be the most ‘net restrictive’ year since 2009. The recent U.S.-sponsored WTO panel to assess 11 Chinese export restrictions may add to the pile. Next year will likely see major new restricting measures from President-elect Trump’s trade policies, with China-led deals in Asia providing leadership on trade facilitation.
