President Trump may announce 10% duties on $200 billion of Chinese exports as soon as this week. That may jeopardize talks with China scheduled for next week. In turn that could remove the potential for an “off-ramp” from the duties on $360 billion in bilateral trade. The impact of the rates on American consumers and corporates will depend in part on whether there are alternative supplies to China.
