The U.S. ITC has, unsurprisingly, determined that an acceleration in imports of large, residential washing machines has injured U.S. industry including Whirlpool. The injury phase of the case will run through December 5, at which stage President Trump will decide what combination of tariffs and/or quotas will be applied. There’s certainly no arguing with the rise in imports. Seaborne shipments to the U.S. of all washing machines climbed 53% in the third quarter vs. a year earlier, and by 9% in the 12 months.
