Who Can Sate CMA-CGM’s Hunger for U.S. Number 1 Spot?

CMA-CGM’s CEO, Rodolph Saade, has targeted a number one market share in U.S. container traffic. He has also been quoted as saying the firm is on the lookout for acquisition opportunities. Panjiva data shows the firm has a long way to go. Including APL it currently has a 7.3% share of U.S. inbound traffic, compared to MSC’s 8.8% and Maersk’s 8.0% including Hamburg Sud. To overtake MSC it therefore needs over 1.5% extra market share, which could be met by acquisitions of Yang Ming (1.7%), Hyundai Merchant Marine (1.8%) or Zim (2.0%).
