North Carolina Ports will add a double-stack containerized rail service from Wilmington to Charlotte with CSX as part of broader expansion plans. These come as ZIM is due to start a new international service. Growth is much needed – imports to the port fell 34% in the 12 months to June 30 after the CKYHE alliance service ended. That lagged regional giants Savannah, which expanded 15%, and Charleston which grew 10% over the same period.
