We know that data, used correctly, can produce great insights. Panjiva’s technology is making it easier to access, understand, and gain insights from data. To that end, we’ve recently enhanced the amount of Chinese trade data on our platform, and we’ve created a new, macro distillation of the data.  Panjiva now covers 90 percent of all HTS codes for goods being shipped to and from China. With this information it is possible to learn about companies never revealed in Panjiva’s core U.S. Customs data, companies that have never traded with the United States. Thus, Panjiva can now provide insight into trade between China and Europe.

Data on Individual Chinese Companies

Our analysts took a look at the new data to discover companies that have traded with Europe but never America, i.e. companies that were previously invisible on Panjiva. We have discovered just under 75,000 Chinese companies that have shipped goods to countries in Europe but not historically with the United States. They cover industries like:

  • Plastics
  • Apparel
  • Furniture

Finding and Using Chinese Trade Data

This data is merged into Panjiva company profiles, and is available through our regular global search.  Our regular global search makes it possible to access Chinese trade data for individual companies. In addition to this we have created a new Chinese trade data tool – one that allows users to view trade between China and any trading partner-country: trade between China and the UK, between China and France, between China and Turkey – we cover the relationships between China and over 190 other countries.  Checkout our tool here.  We’re hosting a live webinar demonstration of this tool, and company-level Chinese trade data next week on June 26, 2014 at 11 a.m., we hope you’ll join us.

Find Customers with Panjiva’s Chinese Trade Data https://panjiva.com/blog/2014/06/18/find-customers-with-panjivas-chinese-trade-data https://panjiva.com/blog/2014/06/18/find-customers-with-panjivas-chinese-trade-data#respond Wed, 18 Jun 2014 14:00:08 +0000 http://panjiva.com/blog/?p=6783 Last year, Panjiva announced the addition of Chinese Trade Data to our platform, providing unmatched insight into trade with China. This enhancement allowed Panjiva customers to access Chinese import and export data, find previously unknown companies doing business in and with China, and to identify emerging trade trends in China.

Today, we’re pleased to announce that we’ve created a new way to view Chinese trade data, and expanded our inventory of Chinese trade data to include 90 percent of all 6-digit HTS codes for Chinese imports and exports. With this additional data, those with a stake in global trade have the greatest possible level of transparency into the what’s coming out of and going into China. We think this data can help suppliers across the globe identify new Chinese buyers to sell to.

China’s emergence as a manufacturing power has helped expand China’s middle class and has made the country a top global consumer as well as producer. More companies are selling to China than ever before, and there is more opportunity to supply China than ever before. This makes transparency into the global supply chain critical.

Panjiva’s data on Chinese trade includes data on over 375,000 companies, including data on close to 100,000 Chinese companies that are importing goods from outside the country. This data is helping suppliers in the U.S., Europe, and elsewhere identify the Chinese buyers they should (or shouldn’t) be doing business with, opening up a huge new potential market of customers.

In 2013, China imported over one trillion dollars (USD) worth of goods. While the volume of imports to China is on the rise as the country shifts towards a nation of consumers, a careful look at the data underscores that a good percentage of consumption might be for their own manufacturing processes. Of the top 10 HS import codes, six are directly related to manufacturing and used in the manufacturing process, such as nuclear reactors, electrical machinery, valves, etc.

Some top import product classes in 2013:

  • Electronic integrated  circuits, other than Amplifiers/Memories/Processors & controllers (854239)
  • Copper and articles thereof: Copper waste and scrap: Copper waste and scrap( 740400)
  • Polypropylene, in primary forms (390210)

With the enhancements to Chinese Trade Data, we hope to better fulfill Panjiva’s mission of making global trade more efficient and transparent by providing never-before-seen insight to the global trade community.

The State of Trade is our yearly survey of global trade professionals, our users. We ask our users questions about the economy, their outlook, and their concerns for the upcoming year. This year we noted the following common sentiments among our survey set:

  • People are optimistic about the overall economic outlook in 2014.
  • They’re still sourcing in China, but they’ve got their eye on new locations.
  • Buyers have concerns – particularly wage inflation in supplier countries.

You can download the full report here. Read it, and let us know what you think. Post your feedback here, or send us email at emily+stateoftrade@panjiva.com.

Panjiva Unveils Network View https://panjiva.com/blog/2014/01/23/panjiva-unveils-network-view https://panjiva.com/blog/2014/01/23/panjiva-unveils-network-view#respond Thu, 23 Jan 2014 14:14:04 +0000 http://panjiva.com/blog/?p=6526 We’re pleased to announce the launch of Panjiva’s Network View tool, a detailed, interactive visualization of trade networks. The tool provides the fastest and easiest way to get a snapshot of a company’s entire trading network. To view the interactive networks, simply visit any Panjiva profile with customs data and click on the ‘Suppliers’ or ‘Customers’ tab and select the Network View on the left side of the page.

Panjiva's Network View

Once you open the Network View, you’re met with a true visualization of the relationships between companies. Customers are represented by blue circles and suppliers by yellow circles.  In this example, the customer –Veratex – is the anchor circle on the left. The number of shipments that have passed between two entities (buyers and suppliers) is graphically represented by the thickness of the line and the size of the circles. You can always see two tiers of trade relationships – in this case Vertex Inc., Vertex Inc. suppliers (Taipro), and other customers of Taipro.

Network View Detail

In addition to providing a quick and easy-to-digest snapshot, the visualization is interactive. Click on any company in this trade network and a new Network View will form with that company as the new anchor circle. Click on Taipro, and suddenly you can see Taipro’s  customers and their suppliers.

The Network View is flexible; it can show you as many as 20 partners and as few as one. It can be filtered by product to focus on a very specific supply chain within a network. Any configuration of a Network View can be downloaded as an image, to share in email and use in presentations. We built the Network View to give our users a beautiful, simple way to view trading partnerships. We hope that they will find the views helpful – and useful for communicating about trade. At this time the Network View is only available to Panjiva Enhanced subscribers and above. Want to see more? Contact us at sales@panjiva.com and someone can give you an in-depth tour of the tool.
