The Ocean Alliance has received approval from the FMC. This means it can start its U.S.-centric operations from April 2017. Panjiva data shows that it had a 20% share of U.S. inbound traffic in September, up from 18.2% when the deal was announced in April 2016. This is well above 2M’s 15.4% and THE Alliance’s (ex Hanjin Shipping) 13.8%. The solution to Hanjin Shipping’s finances will include asset sales – the buyer may complicate existing alliance approvals.
