The U.S. Commerce Department has upgraded India to “Major Defense Partner” which will reduce the export licensing needs for shipments of high-tech and military equipment products. That comes as the Trump administration tries to increase exports to India but faces the challenge of enforcing Iran sanctions in oil and India’s own protections for domestic manufacturing.
