America Takes Aim At India For Arms Sales As Red-Tape Attacked

The U.S. Commerce Department has upgraded India to “Major Defense Partner” which will reduce the export licensing needs for shipments of high-tech and military equipment products. That comes as the Trump administration tries to increase exports to India but faces the challenge of enforcing Iran sanctions in oil and India’s own protections for domestic manufacturing. The main opportunity may come in weapons systems – American exports of military aircraft to India already reached $645 million in 2017 or 91% of total military sales to India.
