Cisco and Juniper’s $24 Billion Trump Problem Unlikely To Be Rerouted

IT network equipment providers including Cisco and Juniper have petitioned President Trump to exclude their equipment from a list of of $200 billion of Chinese exports that will shortly face 25% duties. It’s unlikely their pleas will be heard given network equipment from China accounts for $24 billion of U.S. imports. Removing them from the list would require either (a) cutting the headline figure or (b) including consumer products. One alternative could be lower duties. So far there hasn’t been panic importing reflecting long-term planning needed for data-centers and rapid technology...
