A 14% drop in Japanese exports was the fastest since October 2009 on a stronger currency, highlighted by auto exports falling 16%. The loss of competitiveness with the U.S., shown by a 8.6% drop in volumes exported in Panjiva data, and China due to a stronger currency is to blame. A one quarter drop in imports is arguably a bigger concern.
