Congestion is reportedly building up at the ports of Seattle and Tacoma, WA as a result of a backlog of containers at the ports’ rail yards. That follows disruptions at California’s ports and comes as daily imports to the ports of Seattle and Tacoma rose to 4,518 TEUs per day in the three months to May 31. That represents growth of 39.5% year over year and an expansion of 6.6% compared to the same period of 2019. Much of the growth has been driven by the 2M Alliance of MSC and Maersk and their affiliate ZIM Shipping with combined growth of 31.1% in May 2021 versus May 2019.
