As widely expected the U.S. ITC has determined that U.S. industry has been injured by Canadian exports of softwood lumber, and duties will be applied (though not retroactively). It isn’t the end of the process, as Canada has deployed both NAFTA and WTO disputes. The sector will also feature – possibly negatively – in the ongoing NAFTA negotiations given forestry is 8% of Canadian exports.
