The U.S. Commerce Department has ruled that there has been dumping of glycine – used as a sweetener in the food industry – imported from India, Japan and China. The petitioners in the case may already have seen some benefit with imports having fallen by 29.0% year over year in the three months to Feb. 28, led by a 46.9% slump in shipments from Japan. A final decision in the case due in June may lead importers to increase their shipments from European suppliers, including Arkema and Lanxess, that won’t be subject to duties.
