Vietnam’s government expects exports to the U.S. will expand 4% on a year earlier in 2017. That may require a turnaround given they fell 1% in the first quarter after a 13% drop in March, Panjiva data shows. The bigger issue though is its trade surplus with the U.S. That already reached $32 billion in the past 12 months, and accounted for one fifth of the growth in the U.S. trade deficit in the past three years.
