Container handling by COSCO’s ports increased by 5% in April, the sixth straight month of growth and the fastest rate of expansion since January 2016. This included a recovery in its Bohai Rim properties after two months of declines, as well as a 28% jump in handling at its Hong Kong terminal. That was well ahead of the 10% growth seen in Hong Kong’s ports more generally. They are becoming increasingly Asia-dependent as shipments to the U.S. actually fell 9% in April, Panjiva data shows.
