The Brazilian government may be close to reaching a new quota agreement for sugar exports to China. That follows new tariffs imposed by the Chinese government. It is a particularly important move given extra Mexican volumes may come onto world markets if a deal with the U.S. cannot be reached. Panjiva data shows Brazilian exports of sugar to China already fell 15% on a year earlier in the 12 months to March 31. That compared to a 19% growth in global exports and meant China represented 6% of the Brazilian total.
