Candymaker Haribo plans to build a U.S. factory in Wisconsin, which is due to open in 2020. That likely follows increased demand for the company’s products. Panjiva data shows imports associated with Haribo increased 33% in the three months to February 28 on a year earlier, and have increased 271% in the past year vs. 2011. The move may also be driven by the risk of a border-adjustable tax, which would give U.S. manufactured candy a cost advantage.
