Maersk’s container vessel Maersk Essen has lost around 750 containers in a Pacific ocean storm while sailing eastbound to Los Angeles and has been diverted to Lazaro Cardenas in Mexico. There’s been a string of losses among ultra-large container ships recently, including ONE’s Apus, that may raise questions about the loading and sailing strategies used on such vessels.
