Mexico’s August Port Gains Belie September Woes To Follow

Mexico’s ports handled 22% more containers than a year earlier in August, breaching 400,000 TEUs for the first time. Import growth outstripped exports by 2:1, repeating a pattern seen in both the U.S. and Canada. The biggest contributor to growth in absolute terms was Veracruz. It saw a 24% rise as a result to increased activity at the region’s automotive industry, led by Volkswagen. September will not have been as good.
