A potential trade deal was discussed between U.K. Trade Secretary Fox and U.S. Trade Representative Lighthizer. The U.K. cannot sign a deal until it leaves the EU in March 2019, but it could engage in talks beforehand to allow a deal signing immediately afterwards. The challenge for the U.K. is relevance to U.S. trade policy. The Trump administration’s trade doctrine focuses on reducing trade deficits in part by boosting exports.
