Taiwan’s three main ports handled 13% more containers in February on a year earlier, the fastest rate of growth since June 2014. The expansion may have been flattered by the timing of the lunar new year, though strong national export data for March suggests further growth is possible. One note of caution is a 1% drop in shipments to the U.S. in March, Panjiva data shows. Taiwan’s growth lagged only Hong Kong’s among the five Asian complexes Panjiva tracks, and did markedly better than the contraction seen in South Korea and Singapore for the month.
