Volumes Melt, Prices Firm as ITC Acts on Polyester Staple Fiber

Cons. Discr. - Apparel 500 U.S. 5325

The U.S. ITC has determined that exports from South Korea and Taiwan of low-melt polyester fiber were sold below fair value, and have injured American industry. A decision on duties is due by December 4, but it is worth noting a similar case on high denier PSF was delayed earlier this week. Unlike that case though, shipments are already falling. Imports in June were 40% below their January peak. However, buyers of low-melt PSF may pay the price – average import costs increased 16% over the same period.
