The industry associations representing U.S. beef have petitioned President Trump to use his talks with President Xi in April to promote access to the Chinese market. While $645 million of beef was exported to Hong Kong in the 12 months to January 31, that has been slowing with an 11% drop in the month of January on a year earlier. Exports globally have expanded, by 21% in January, and could grow further near-term if the industry takes advantage of Brazil’s woes. Yet, exporters from Australia and New Zealand have a head-start in China as their governments are already negotiating new deals...
