Venezuela Trade Inches Ahead on Exports but Mercosur in Doubt

Venezuela’s position in the regional Mercosur trade pact is in doubt ahead of an August 23 meeting of the pact. Food imports are the biggest challenge for the country, with total imports from its five largest partners down 58% in June vs. a year earlier according to Panjiva data. A modest recovery in exports since February, and an opening of borders with Colombia are rare bright spots.
