AGOA Rights At Risk in USTR Recycled Clothing Case

The U.S. Trade Representative is investigating whether Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda should still receive preferential tariffs under the AGOA program after banning imports of used clothing. Industry association SMART asserts the U.S. industry has suffered “significant economic hardship”. Panjiva data shows U.S. used clothing and textiles fell 7% on a year earlier in April – one year after the ban occurred.
