Bayonne Bounce Absent As New York Growth Matches National Average

Corp - Ports 884 Mode - Containerized 1475 Mode - Seaborne 1806 U.S. 5325

Container handling through the Port of New York climbed 8% on a year in July, though that was partly the result of a 17% increase in empty container handling. Loaded container throughput was just 5%, suggesting the effect of the Bayonne Bridge raising may only be felt later in the peak season. Nationally the nine port complexes tracked by Panjiva saw a growth of 9% on a year earlier, led by the Californian ports. On a quarterly basis Houston leads, but may see a reversal resulting from Hurricane Harvey-related disruption.
