Bigger Doesn’t Mean Better as Busan Loses Out to Smaller Ports

South Korean ports handled 2% fewer containers on a year earlier in February, the first drop since September when Hanjin Shipping’s financial failure started. While this was partly the result of a 13% drop in transshipments, it did still contrast with a 20% rise in exports and a 24% jump in imports for the month. That may be explained by the bulk of the export gains being in electronics, which tend to be moved by air.
