Brazil Meat Exports Butchered as Corruption Crisis Continues

Brazil’s meat export crisis continues, with 17 countries now having banned imports after a corruption probe was launched on March 17. Panjiva data shows meat products account for 16% of Brazil’s top 200 export lines. Analysis of over 360 product-country pairs shows that frozen cuts of chicken are the largest export line at 44% of the total, with leading buyers including Spain (16% of all meat exports), China, Hong Kong and South Africa. All have have already banned imports from Brazil, while Morocco (10% of the total) and Singapore (7%) have yet to do so.
