Canada’s Western Ports Head North as DP World Boosts Prince Rupert

Canada 495 Corp - Ports 882 Mode - Containerized 1473 Mode - Seaborne 1804

Container handling via Canada’s western ports climbed 10% on a year earlier in August, the seventh straight month of growth. Vancouver’s handling climbed 4% after an expansion of imports offset a 9% drop in exports. That’s a six month pattern, and echoes the performance seen in California’s ports. The Port of Prince Rupert meanwhile saw a 37% surge in volumes after DP World opened its new facilities there. That was mostly dedicated to imports, which climbed 29%, as well as clearing a backlog of empty containers.
