CETA Still Not Certain as Growth Goes Against the EU

The European Parliament has approved the CETA trade deal with Canada. While allowing the deal to progress technically, it is not effective until it has been approved by the member states’ parliaments. The investor/state dispute mechanism is also reportedly subject to judicial review. Trade had been working in the EU’s favor, with 2016 exports to Canada 29% higher than in 2010 while flows the other way only grew 12%.
