China Keeps Chicken Out as Agricultural Trade Tensions Simmer

China’s Ministry of Commerce is cutting tariffs on U.S. broiler chicken exports, in response to a WTO ruling, but is retaining a general ban on the products due to bird flu concerns. The move comes as tensions between the two countries regarding agricultural products remain high. It also comes just ahead of a meeting between NDRC Vice Chairman Liu and USTR Lighthizer to discuss managing the trade relationship more broadly.
